VoIP – Everything You Should Know

More and more businesses – and even homes – are making the switch to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology to make their calls.

Is it time to say goodbye to “landlines” for good?

With better quality, lower costs and easy set-up, it’s easy to see why. But how much do you know about VoIP, and how it could benefit your business?

HOW DOES IT WORK?

VoIP converts your voice into a digital signal, compresses it, and sends it over the internet via a VoIP connection which is established between the two (or more) call participants.

The digital data is uncompressed on the receiving end, and converted into sound which is played via your handset or speakerphone.

Users can make calls from VoIP handsets, computers, laptops, or even mobile apps.

WHAT’S CHANGED?

Traditional phone systems carry voice signals using analog phone lines which rely on circuit wiring to make and receive calls.

VoIP signals can be transmitted digitally over the internet, using real-time protocol to ensure the data is delivered quickly.

VoIP phone systems eliminate the need to install physical phone lines.

WHO USES VOIP?

Businesses in the United States added over 35 million VoIP lines between 2010 and 2018, reaching 41.6 million users.

It’s estimated that today around 31% of businesses currently use VoIP systems, and that figure is climbing. A 2019 Global Market Insights, Inc. report holds that the VoIP market will grow from around $20 billion in 2018 to around $55 billion by 2025.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
  • MONEY MONEY MONEY

Because a VoIP system does not require any additional hardware, it’s often more cost-effective than the physical hardware, installation and maintenance costs required for a landline.

VoIP calls are also significantly cheaper than landlines, with free international calls as standard. Substantial savings of at least 40% on local calls, and up to 90% on international calls, are achieved after switching.

Bahati’s VoIP offering uses pure per second billing instead of per minute billing, which ensures huge savings on our clients’ monthly telephone bills.

  • WORK FROM ANYWHERE

Calls aren’t dependent on a physical location, allowing you to use your mobile phone as an extension of your office phone.

This is a major plus for companies with remote workers. You also get access to a wide selection of additional features including video conferencing.

  • SAVE YOUR DATA

On average, 50% of an audio conversation is silent. However Traditional phone lines constantly send data both ways.

Using “silence suppression” technology, VoIP can detect when someone is speaking and won’t send any data if it detects no speech.

  • FUTURE-PROOF SCALABILITY

VoIP relies on the internet only, allowing for an unlimited number of lines. Fixed monthly cost makes budget management easier, and the setup of this system is straightforward, with little to zero downtime on the company network.
